Half Flange Refacing for GE Steam Turbine
In-Situ was faced with a challenge from General Electric on one of their Steam turbines. The seal diaphragm face was washed out and needed to be refaced, the problem was that the lower and upper casing's were not together - GE wanted them done separately. In-Situ machinist and president Maurice Titley came up with a solution. Maurice built a jig so the medium sized flange facer would fit on each side of the split line and machine each half separately. The set-up took a little longer than when the halves are joined, but the customer was able to get their faces fixed and put the turbine back together in a timely fashion. :: |
